Title: An 80s smorgousborg of monster mayham!
Review: This movie is like a smorgasbord of several other 80s sci-fi movies that were all mixed into a blender. you got the general story of Ridley Scott’s “Alien”, the setting and location of James Cameron’s “The Abyss”, and the shapeshifting monster from John Carpenter’s “the Thing”. Put that all together and you get “Leviathan”! Even the choice of actors all feel like a round up of distinct 80s character actors from that time. We get Peter Weller, aka “RoboCop”, Richard Crenna from “First Blood”, Ernie Hudson who honestly feels like he’s playing the exact same character he played in “Ghostbusters”(which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned) and Daniel Stern from “Home Alone(I know that one is a 90s film, but close enough) just to name a few. That’s kind of the main appeal of this whole movie. It has all the best elements from a lot of other sci-fi films of that era blended together and while this movie might not be as good as any of those other said films, it still makes for a great entertaining ride that’s definitely worth checking out! All the actors are very likable in their roles and it has some really nice set design and cool creature effects that you’d expect from a well made 80s creature feature film. In general it’s just a really fun popcorn movie. The only downside is that the story is a little too similar to “Alien” at times and does get kind of predictable towards the end, but the monster is pretty cool looking and is basically a more aquatic version of the creature in “The Thing” movie. Now that I think about it, this movie might actually be the closest thing we ever got to a good sequel to “The Thing”. It’s certainly better than the crappy 2011 prequel film we got. Anyway, It’s a good film. Not the best of it’s kind for sure, but it has a little bit of everything you’d want for a creature feature film like this.

Title: It said Blu Ray but it also came with Ultra HD copy.
Review: Great movie to add to my collection. It’s kind of like the thing but underwater. That’s all I can say without spoiling the movie.

Title: Worth the high price this is 4k magic
Review: I think it looks really good. Ub820 on c3 lg oled. Has that 4k clearness and depth the picture being older style reminds you are watching a film with practical effects and real sets. Dolby vision has the pop highlight some scenes look shot yesterday. Close up of the Jesus at the beginning and his suit lifting out of the water looked 2024. Grain in some scenes is very fine compared to what you normally see in this age of film. In others there almost no grain Black jump suits show detail despite being deep dark black. Peter sellers eyes never been so blue and mysterious. Some of the over head lights are bright white with no blooming to the pint they look like digital streaks with a marker like a special effects add in but it’s not. At 39$ I thought this was spendy but now that l’ve seen it I will attest it is worth the money. Lots of depth some backgrounds look 3d. This is one of my favorite looking 4k upgrade discs. The background set pieces of inside the vessel has a lot of pipes and conduits that stand out with depth. 6 pack’s suit chest piece number and lights on the suits look digitally added a bit distracting I don’t think they really are digital effects I think. It’s just the crisp clear lines and bright colors popping that make it look a bit artificial. Im no professional. But I am a 4k junkie owning 90% of mainstream titles and most of the 80’s classics I am really enjoying this picture. I only hope Aliens and the Abyss look this good. I have the 4k digital on apple and Vudu but not sure if it will be same as the discs coming out in March. 4.8/5

Title: The final scene where he punches the hated executive in the face is irresistible.
Review: Even in 4K UHD, this movie’s appeal remains undiminished. I think the underwater base set was pretty well done.Leviathan is called a “cult” and seems to have a very strong fan base, probably because of the origin of the story, the story, how the characters interact, and what their fate will be. More than that, I think the only thing that shines in this work is the scene at the end where he punches a hateful executive in the face. Because it makes you feel refreshed. That’s what makes this movie so appealing, beyond all reason. “Cult” works have that kind of charm, and it’s a movie that convinces fans that this is the secret to never getting bored.

Title: Looks great in 4k. A solid choice for 80s movie fans.
Review: I read allot of hype about this as far as the picture quality and for an old 80 movie. Watched it, the picture quality was fantastic as well as sound. Loved this movie as a kid, felt like I was watching it in the theater. 5 stars.

Review: Leviathan is one of those movies that you either love, or just don’t care about. Released in an era when underwater horror was the new space (this is Aliens meets The Thing set in an undersea mining operation). The cast is solid – Peter Weller (the OG Robocop), Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters), and a youngish Daniel Stern (Home Alone). The premise is sheer fun. Is it wildly original? No, but it’s executed well enough and the creature effects and overall production are solid for its time. The transfer here by Kino is very well done. Clean, sharp picture. No sign of being overly reliant on DNR. Sound is good as well with a DTS-MA surround track, plus 2-channel.The Abyss and Deep Star Six were released around the same time. More recently you’ve got Underwater. These types of horror films always get my attention- the setting being just a tad more familiar and relatable than the vastness of space. The Abyss might be the best of them, but Leviathan is a guilty pleasure title for sure.

Review: Deep Star Six (1989) fue la primera de varias películas de monstruos submarinos que se estrenaron en el 1989 y 1990, incluyendo The Abyss (1989), Leviathan (1989), The Evil Below (1989),Deepstar Six (1989), and The Rift (aka Endless Descent, 1990).

Review: Excellent sci-fi thriller with non-stop action and plenty of suspense. Centres on a crew of deep sea miners and a sunken freighter that hosted a genetic experiment that went wrong which created a monster that lives to kill. Throw in a raging storm on the surface and little hope of rescue and you have a recipe for a very entertaining movie.

Review: Guys you got to watch this. A bunch of under water miners work their lives off on a deep water station. The long stay below is taking effect on their relations but they keep smiling and kidding each other. Then the clown of the team gets lost over an uncharted ridge. he finds the Leviathan, a Russian military ship that sank to the deep. The team brings on board valuable stuff from the ship wreck. Captain’s log. Files of deceased ship mates of Leviathan. the mystery takes the form of a message left behind by the unfortunate Capatain. the message is interrupted and it ends leaving the discoverers hanging.A bottle of vodka is stolen from the Leviathan find and the thief shares it with a team mate. the next day is a day of shocks beyond imagination. One of the films with a very advanced approach to the future about the way we intend to end our lives by not fully understanding science and nature. the two elements should not be tampered with by crazy nerds with dooms day machines on their minds.Enjoy it. Have a good time with a friend and remember what film making was long ago. and by the way, take a good look at Peter Weller. I still see robo-cop with out the clunky-chunky gear. lol
