Alien: Romulus As it has a decent grip Crow Remake flops

As the summer box office gets underway, there's both good and bad news for modern Hollywood. Let's start with the good news, Alien: Romulus The second weekend saw a drop of only 61% domestically, which while not the best drop, is enough to earn it a decent profit by the end of its run and is likely to break even by the end of the next weekend. With the second weekend's total worldwide gross of approximately $225,439,383, we can now predict that Romulus will end up grossing between $322,056,261 and $450,878,766 globally. That means the film will likely earn a net profit of between $60-$130 million. The fact that Alien: Romulus It's being criticized by some of the most ardent fans of Foreigner franchise and still doing well shows that there is clearly a disconnect between hardcore fans of certain IPs and the general movie-going public. However, one cannot deny that if the film had made some different narrative choices, we could have been talking about one of the biggest movies of the summer. When you lose those hardcore fans, you also lose the audience that is more likely to see the film multiple times in theaters. In the current market of high ticket prices, inflation making people more cautious about how they spend their money, and with so few gems of Hollywood films, this is a huge lost opportunity.

Now, the really bad news is that it's time to turn our attention to the movie's remake. Crow. Not only was it a movie that no one in the fan base wanted, but it also didn't serve the original film's story or source material very well. One of the many problems with this release is the fact that someone in Hollywood thought that remaking a film that didn't make its money back at the time (but later found success on home video, which helped make it a cult classic for many) was somehow a good financial investment. As someone who wasn't a huge fan of the original (I watched the film much later in life), I was quite perplexed as to how the remake ever got the green light. Regardless of one's opinion of any film, the fact that the 2024 version only made $4.6 million in its domestic opening and, as of the time of writing, its international numbers have yet to be released (never a good sign) means that this is destined to become another huge flop in the summer of 2024. With a budget of around $50 million, the film is currently at a net loss of around -$72,470,000. In addition to a much lower opening weekend than expected, poor word of mouth means we can expect Crow It's likely to lose over $50 million by the end of its run… which probably won't last for very long.

According to the-numbers.com, This weekend's top five At the domestic level there were:

  1. deadpool and wolverine (Drop of 39% in 5th weekend)
  2. Alien: Romulus (Drop of 61% in the second weekend)
  3. it ends with us (50% drop in the third weekend)
  4. Blink twice ($7.3 million as a new release)
  5. Furnace ($6.6 million as a new release)

deadpool and wolverine And inside out 2 maintain one's dominance

Fighting between domestic clans inside out 2 And deadpool and wolverine It is almost over. If we compare the current domestic total deadpool and wolverine Where inside out 2 Delivers an edge at the same point of its release Dead Pool by only $6 million. Remember that after a massive opening weekend deadpool and wolverineThat movie made over $50 million inside out 2 has been able to gradually end. I would not be surprised to see that inside out 2 Sometime this week or, at the most, by the end of next weekend, take the lead (for good).

However, this battle doesn't really matter in the big scheme of things, as both films are individually making Disney hundreds of millions of dollars, but it was still pretty fun to track since a rated-R movie almost never wins against a PG movie. At the end of the day, deadpool and wolverine It is still expected to top $600 million in domestic sales. inside out 2 its international total, which officially passed $1 billion this weekend. The mainstream media may run with the slightly flawed narrative, saying it's the first animated film to do so (without adjusting for inflation or anything else), but it's still a huge win for the film no matter how one looks at it. With six new releases next weekend for the extended Labor Day holiday schedule, we're likely to have a few new films to discuss. However, don't be surprised to see both inside out 2 and especially deadpool and wolverine Stay in the conversation.
